### Distance 3d

IB maths SL, Vectors - Distance between two points in 3-D space.

How can we find the distance between the points $C(1,2,3)$ and $D(-1,-4,0)$ ?

The distance between two points $C(x_{1}, y_{1}, z_{1})$ and $D(x_{2}, y_{2}, z_{2})$ is given by the following formula:

$d=\sqrt{(x_{1}- x_{2})^2+(y_{1}- y_{2})^2+(z_{1}- z_{2})^2}$

So, in our case we have

$d=\sqrt{(1- (-1))^2+(2- (-4))^2+(3-0)^2}=\sqrt{4+36+9}=\sqrt{49}=7$
